Expectations

Expectations of community agencies:

1) Provide data that was collected in an ethical manner, and that is as complete and valid as possible.

2) Provide sufficient data for statistical analysis (see example [Excel]):

a) Data provided electronically in Excel (preferred), SPSS, or rich text format

b) Data on a minimum of 40 cases.

c) A minimum of 3 demographic variables (i.e. gender, race, age, marital status, income).

d) If intervention research:

i)  A minimum of 1 treatment/service variables (i.e. type of treatment received, amount received).

ii) A minimum of 1 outcome variable (i.e. close reason, pretest/posttest measurements).

iii) A copy of measurement tool used, and accompanying handbook, if possible.

e)   If survey research, a minimum of 8 closed-ended questions/responses.

3) Provide information on the context of the data:

a) Agency type, mission, structure, programs, and funding sources (i.e. agency and/or program brochures, annual report).

b) If intervention research:

i)  A description of treatment/services that were offered (preferably in writing) (i.e. operations manual).

ii) A description of how data was gathered and recorded (preferably in writing).

c) If survey research, a minimum of 8 closed-ended questions/responses.

i) A copy of the survey tool.

ii)Context of survey (reason conducted, intended population).

4) Be available for occasional contact with course instructor and students - by E-mail, phone, or face-to-face.

5) Attend student presentations at the end of the course, provide informal feedback to students at that time. (Presentations can be done by speaker phone for out-of-town community partners.)
