Mission & history
Mission:
Christian faith communities can prevent child abuse and neglect through valuing children, strengthening families, and collaborating with service providers. The purpose of this project is to educate and mobilize faith communities through training, support, and networking.
History:
This project was borne out of the desire of Jeanette Harder, Assistant Professor at the School of Social Work at the University of Nebraska at Omaha to better equip Christian faith communities to prevent child abuse and neglect. Out of her own experience of membership and participation in the Mennonite church, she began to providing education at her church, leading to an adult curriculum. She and graduate students conducted a qualitative research project, interviewing Christian faith community leaders and service providers about the role of faith communities in ending child abuse, and the opportunities and barriers to collaboration. Along with a growing group of students, community service providers, and faith community members, the project now continues to engage in training, networking and research to further the goal of preparing faith communities to end child abuse and neglect.
